In this episode we talk to the owner of one of Dún Laoghaire's very unique small businesses - The Pen Place - at the top of the Dún Laoghaire shopping centre. Brendan Kerrigan runs a mecca for lovers of great pens and great inks in a tiny space sought out by everyone from rockstars to High Court judges. The business has survived the retail crisis that has affected the town - proving that great customer service, consistent high quality offerings and an owner with a passion for his work can overcome even a global pandemic. This podcast was recorded virtually via Zoom - Brendan on his Android phone and Aileen on her iPad attached to a Shure MV88 stereo microphone and a soundwall on her kitchen table, all done live on a BNI Forty Foot chapter meeting.

The Story of The Dalkey School Project
Monday Sep 16, 2019
Monday Sep 16, 2019
In the early 1970s, two families in Dalkey in south Dublin came together and with considerable vision, courage and energy, established Ireland's first multidenominational school, the Dalkey School Project.
Now in 2019, as the Educate Together movement expands into post primary education and has become the ethos of choice for so many parents in Ireland, this radio documentary I made with the help of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland's Sound and Vision fund, tells the story of its origins.
I'm working with Educate Together on a video story, and this documentary is a very useful archive of this wonderful story.

Ronan Cavanagh of Cavanagh Communications discusses his PR business
Tuesday Jan 15, 2019
Tuesday Jan 15, 2019
As part of my membership of the Forty Foot chapter of BNI (Business Network International) in Dun Laoghaire, I interviewed fellow member and PR professional Ronan Cavanagh.
Ronan told the group about his business and his philosophy on life.
I recorded the interview to
(a) help Ronan communicate his story
(b) show the group how easy it is to make a pop up podcast by using my Zoom H4n digital recorder on a short stand, with both Ronan and I facing the group and facing the mic at the same time - they were impressed!
(c) to show you the listener that audio recordings are a super way to tell a great story!
We make podcasts, and we advise on podcast-making. Once a radio reporter, always a radio reporter!...
